Glen Stewart Mears, Sr., 76, died Thursday, May 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pittsburgh, Penn.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded three Purple Hearts for his bravery and sacrifice. Following his military service, he continued serving his community with the Lake Charles Police Dept. for several years. In 1980, he began a distinguished career with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he served for 50 years.
In addition to his law enforcement career, he served on Fire District 2 Board and was the leader of the Office of Emergency Preparedness. He was also a member of Magnolia Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Leah Rebecca Karpe Mears; sons, Bryan Mears and Glen Stewart Mears Jr.; stepdaughter, Jennifer Werland and husband Michael; three grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; brother, Jerry Mears; and sisters, Zelma “Kathy” Kiinzing and Pat Lick.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Ray Mears and Ann Marie Nichols Mears and his first wife.
A funeral service was held Thursday, May 21, at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. He was be laid to rest at Consolata Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beauregard Officers Assistance Fund or the Louisiana State University Endowment under the Jason Scott McClaran Scholarship.
