The DeQuincy Lady Tigers softball team had a first class police escort out of town courtesy of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office this past Saturday.
The score certainly does not define the entire season, but it certainly shows just how far these girls have come compared to a season ago as the DeQuincy Lady Tigers played their guts out against the defending state champion LaSalle Lady Tigers on the road in the quarterfinals this past Saturday.
The DeQuincy faithful showed up in a sea of red from behind the back stop all the way down the first base fence and even to the foul pole. Of course there was a lot of blue and gold as the LaSalle faithful also wrapped around the ball field in what was a state championship type of atmosphere in the small town of less than 1000 people. It certainly felt like the game was being played at Frasch Park as both teams did not disappoint.
LaSalle would strike first in the first inning with a solo home run over the left field fence to go up 1-0. But in the third inning, DeQuincy would take a one run lead when senior third baseman Emily Cooley ripped a line drive into centerfield which would score Olivia Oden and Audi Flower to take the 2-1 lead. But it would not last long as LaSalle would tie it up in the bottom half of the third inning and it would remain tied until the bottom of the fifth inning. LaSalle took a one run lead as DeQuincy never had an answer after that as they would fall to the defending state champions in a very competitive and hard fight ball game.
Audi Flower was 1-3, Emily Cooley was 1-3 with 2 RBIs, and Bella Moore was 1-2.
We want to congratulate the DeQuincy Lady Tigers players and coaches on a wonderful season and we want to wish the three seniors the best of luck in their future endeavors, once a Tiger, always a Tiger!
LaSalle 3, DeQuincy 2
