Morris Procell of DeQuincy wrote a poem entitled “American Pride” and sent it to President Trump.
Procell received a letter of appreciation from the President along with his official seal.
Here is the poem Procell wrote:
American Pride
To those who died in all her wars
Upon that fateful day
Away from home and loved ones
So much in harm’s way
You gave your all – your lives that day
And kept our county free
Where children grow so tall and straight
From sea to shining sea
No more you’ll feel the salty sea
So cool upon your face
Or miss the warmth of family
You’ll never more embrace
Or know a son or daughter
And watch them as they grow
You gave it all forever
And I wonder if you know
The way my heart pours out to you
Those long, long years ago
You stood so young and tall and brave
And never blinked an eye
Yet knowing on that fatal day
That you may surely die
And on that day the angels wept
And Heaven’s doors swung wide
And mother’s hearts were heavy
With sweet sorrow and with pride
And God on High with outstretched arms
In Glory called you home
Where there’s no wars or rumors
In the Shadow of His throne.
