The monthly DeQuincy City Council meeting was called to order by Eddy Dalhquist on Monday, May 12.
The Apr. 14, 2025 regular meeting minutes and the May 1, 2025 special meeting minutes were approved.
Mayor Riley Smith reported that the City’s Easter Egg Hunt was well attended and the Movie Night was a success. He commended City Clerk, Sherri Breaux and City Planner, Kim Rainwater for the hard work and dedication in making these events possible.
Mayor Smith also spoke about the memorial bench for the late Chief Michael “Big E” Suchanek that has been placed in front of DeQuincy Police Dept.
Breaux gave a brief explanation on the process of having a property condemned. From beginning to end, it can take up to a year to complete.
This condemnation process has been started for several properties located on Jackson St. and one property on Hall St.
Several citizens were present and were concerned about the amount of water on their property due to the rainfall received last week. Eddy Dahlquist will have the City Crew take care of some drainage improvements.
Ordinance #993, set for a public hearing on June 9, to declare property located on Grand Ave (Old Grand Ave Gym) to be sold through the bid process has been postponed.
The meeting was adjourned.
