Chamber will award four scholarships to DHS seniors

DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce held their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, May 8, at the Heritage Place Hotel. CSE Credit Union was the meal sponsor.

The Chamber has awarded four $500 DeQuincy High School Scholarships to be announced at graduation.

Service projects for April included:

Assisted in “Love The Boot”, an initiative by City of DeQuincy to clean-up and pick-up litter in conjunction with Lt.Billy Nungessor’s annual statewide campaign.

Offered “Share The Shade” at La. Railroad Days Festival where they offered respite from the elements, a place to sit or eat and even a baby changing station by setting up the Chamber tent.

Participated as Senior Bingo co-hosted along with DeQuincy Memorial Hospital.

Provided face painting to young attendees at the City’s Community Egg Hunt.

Preliminary Christmas activities have been announced and will be somewhat different this year. All activities are slated for Saturday, Dec. 6 – Downtown on Pine St. to include: vendors market, afternoon parade, Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and fireworks display. “Dickens In DeQuincy” will once again be the theme.

Special guests at the meeting included School Board Member Tony O’Banion, Donna Moss, Dayna Hoffpauir, Crystal Scott spoke about Louisiana Work Force Commission. For more information on the program visit louisianaworks.net.

The next meeting will be Thursday, June 12, at 12 noon at Heritage Place Hotel & Suites. DQMH will host the meal and program.
