By Major Jerry Bell, DeQuincy Police Public Affairs Officer
At 4:30 p.m., on Monday, May 12, a ceremony and the unveiling of a memorial bench was held at the DeQuincy Police Department.
The ceremony was held in honor of Chief Mike Suchanek’s long service to the City of DeQuincy. Those attending were Mayor Riley Smith, the City Council and Department Heads, Chief Annajo Haynes, numerous police officers, and friends and family of Chief Suchanek.
Mayor Smith gave the opening welcoming remarks and related that the memorial bench was donated in honor of Chief Suchanek by an individual. Major Jerry Bell gave a short talk on his relationship with Chief Suchanek and told of his long-dedicated service to the City of DeQuincy, and how he has been missed.
The bench has been unveiled, and it depicted a photo of Chief Suchanek and his many years of service. Chief Suchanek was our Chief of Police from 1995-2019.
The ceremony concluded with the DQPD Chaplain, Officer Randy Henry, giving the closing prayer. Chief Suchanek’s Memorial Bench is in front of the DQPD by the flagpole and all our citizens are invited to come see his beautiful memorial bench.
Chief Suchanek, known as “Big E” around the state, is truly missed by all those who had the opportunity to come across his path.
