Former DeQuincy Tiger standout and current LSU-Eunice pitcher Reese Ashworth will play for the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators this summer after completing his two season at LSU-Eunice.
The Gumbeaux Gators organization is a team consisting of current college players from across the region. They compete in the Texas Collegiate League which has been around for almost three decades.
Ashworth, a sophomore right-handed pitcher for LSU-Eunice, has made 17 appearances this season for the Bengals. He’s logged 22.1 innings, recorded 23 strikeouts, and notched four saves, posting a 2-1 record.
A 2023 graduate of DeQuincy High School, Ashworth turned heads his senior season with a 10-2 record, a stellar 0.95 ERA, and 137 strikeouts.
Following the completion of the Gumbeaux Gators’ season, Ashworth will be preparing for next spring as he will be dawning the blue and gold of the McNeese State Cowboys where he plans to spend the last two years of his collegiate career.
Ashworth’s first game with the Gumbeaux Gators will be on June 3, in Lake Charles against the Acadiana Cane Cutters from Lafayette. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., at Joe Miller Ballpark.
He is the son of Jody Ashworth and Breona Bevil Brown.
We are extremely proud of you Reese! #DeQuincyMade
