In celebration of National Police Week May 11-17, the Rotary Club of DeQuincy honored members of Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and DeQuincy Police Dept. at their meeting held on Thursday, May 1, in the CrossPoint Community Church Fellowship Hall to remind them how thankful we are for our peace officers.
There were 13 active duty peace officers in attendance to enjoy a meal and be honored. All were given a Rotary Challenge Coin with the Rotary 4-Way Test on it.
The meal was donated by Rotarian Jimmy Henagan. Rotarians Doug DeViney and Crystal Nix prepared the meal.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory urged everyone to go vote and asked for support in the renewal of the 1/2 % tax renewal for our Law Enforcement District which passed on the ballot Saturday, May 3.
Kara Adams, CPSO gave an awareness talk on Alliance To Fight Human Trafficking in SWLA. The Task Force is comprised of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and local service agencies and non-profits working together to prevent sexual exploitation, and prosecute human trafficking cases in and around Calcasieu Parish. The mission of the task force is to identify, investigate and prosecute those individuals responsible for human trafficking, all while providing quality services to those who find themselves a victim to this horrendous crime. She asked that if someone sees something, that they report suspected trafficking to the 24/7 tip line which is anonymous, 337-491-SWLA (7952).
Additional resources and ways to stay informed are on social media: Facebook at Alliance to Fight Human Trafficking in SWLA; and Instagram @fightHTSWLA. Donations may be made out to Venmo@Alliance-SWLA.
She explained that with everyone’s help we can put an end to the trafficking of humans.
Rotary Club of DeQuincy is proud to support our local law enforcement who have been keeping our community safe.
We salute our officers who wake up, suit up, kiss their families goodbye… and step into a world of unknowns. No headlines. No fanfare. Just quiet courage in the face of real danger. We honor them for protecting and serving.
That’s why today – and every day – we stand in support of all of those wearing the badge and carrying the weight of that responsibility.
To those who put on the uniform each day: thank you.
You’re seen.
You’re respected.
And you’re never alone because we back the Blue.
The next meeting for Rotary Club is Thursday, June 5, at 12 noon at CrossPoint Community Church, 302 E Center St. For more information call 337-912-5063.
