Chamber award renamed to honor Jones

DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce has changed the name of one of their annual awards to honor Amos Jones posthumously. This year’s award will be named the 2025 Amos Jones Citizen of the Year and will be presented at the Chamber Banquet on Thursday, Mar. 20.

Jones was the oldest and longest standing member of the Chamber for over 40 years. He was born in 1929, the 7th of 12 children who had to grow up fast. He went to work at 12 after finishing the 7th grade. He held many jobs most working for others and was owner/operator of Jones Paint and Body in DeQuincy from 1977 until his retirement in 2009. During his 95 years, he saw and experienced much change from his humble beginnings. He was most proud of his recent accomplishments to include the establishment of the DeQuincy Community ACTS Foundation with a primary goal of helping to fund a Senior Center for DeQuincy. He took great pride in being named the 2023 Olympian of the Year for the SWLA Senior District Games.

Faith, family and friends were his focus and sheer determination made Amos Jones the humble man he was!
