DeQuincy’s heaviest snow fell in 1960

(DeQuincy News, Feb. 18, 1960)

It is next to immpossible to measure the depth of a snow due to the various conditions existing from place to place. However, there is not much argument against the contention that the snow last weekend was the deepest seen in these parts during this century.

Getting back to the depth of the snow most of us will agree that there was a minimum of six inches, while there were others who will go along for seven or eight inches.

The snow fell Friday afternoon and up until late Friday night. The sun came out Saturday, again Sunday and then again Monday, still there is evidence in shady places about the city Tuesday morning. The freezing weather of Saturday and Sunday nights helped to maintain the white cover for the long period of time. Children were beginning to think maybe we were “stuck” with it for all time to come. One teenager asked after tiring of the slush, “how are we going to get rid of this mess.”
