Lois Cooley Hollie was born Jan. 24, 1944, and passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, at the age of 80. Lois loved to bake and cook. She cooked for the DeQuincy Rotary Club and was in the catering business for forty-four years. She worked in the nursery at the DeQuincy Methodist Church and owned her own “Lois’s Kiddie Kollege”. She worked with the Beauregard Parish School Board as an aide for their special needs bus riders. Lois loved flowers, helping with Bible School crafts, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and attending family get togethers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Doralyn Cooley Rodriguez, Lealon “Buddy” Cooley Jr., David Cooley and wife, Leigh Ann, Marcie Koonce and husband, Wesley; grandchildren, Kourtni Verret and husband, Jessie, Katie Saltzman and husband, Matt, Kelsey Cooley and fiancé Wacey Manuel, Samantha Koonce and Sawyer Koonce; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Judy Bennett, Jimmy Kendall and wife, Gayle, Joan Hunt, Winston Kendall and wife, Cassy and Jerry Lee along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lealon Cooley; parents, George E. Kendall and wife Selest Vige Kendall; siblings, JT Kendall and Mary Lee Kendall; brother in-law, John Hunt; and sister in-law, Janice Kendall.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan.16, at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy. Rev. Mark Schultz and Rev. Mark Norman will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hyatt Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
