This update on DeQuincy High School was provided by School Board Representative Tony O’Banion:
I probably don’t post enough to keep everyone up to date on everything going on at DeQuincy High School. Over the summer, contractors lifted the front of the building and bored down 10 feet to add concrete piers. This was done to stabilize the building and make it safe. Part of the sidewalk and cover had to be taken out to do this.
It was a major project. Work will be completed before school starts. Once the temporary locker rooms are set up, there will be temporary shower and bathroom facilities brought in. We were ready to start demolition when small amounts of asbestos were found. This has to be removed before demolition can start. That is out for bid now. There was also a new chiller installed this summer.
I will try to keep everyone informed on the progress. As always let me know if anyone has any questions. The architect and engineers have been working on the plans for the new gym. This will have to be bid and construction will take some time.
