Rev. Roger Blackburn

Rev. Roger Blackburn was born Feb. 4, 1954, and passed away Wednesday, Mar. 20, 2024, at the age of 70.

When Roger saw Reta Nell Ludwig in church, he knew she was the one. Their love story unfolded swiftly, and after just two weeks, they were engaged. On June 8, 1972, Roger and Reta embarked on a lifelong journey of companionship, celebrating 51 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Roger’s legacy lives on through the cherished memories he created with his loved ones. He is survived by his stepfather, Clayton Hudson, his sisters, Pamela Franks (Jimmy) and Patricia Walker (Michael), and his honorary brother, Samuel Blackmon. His love extended to his children, Billy Blackburn (Misty) and Tamara Cox (Russell), and his grandchildren -Charity Herman (Jonathan), Dylan Blackburn (Dana), and Travis Cox – who brought him immeasurable joy. His great-grandchildren only intensified that joy: Mexia Jane Herman and, coming in May, Rowan Mae Herman. He also shared in the lives of many loving nieces, nephews, and numerous adopted sons and daughters.

Roger extended the legacy of those who preceded him: his father, Billy Max Blackburn, his mother, Ethel Mae Hudson, and his baby sister, Deborah Ann.

The family received friends from 5 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. Monday, Mar. 25, at First Church of Pearland, Texas. Graveside service began at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Mar. 26,.at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena, Texas.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
