The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is investigating a gasoline spill that happened at a gas station in DeQuincy Sunday, Jan. 14, leading to the evacuation of the residents at one nearby home.

According to Kevin Borne, representative of DEQ, an underground storage tank company was servicing a tank at a Circle K when a malfunction caused the tank to spill what was either gasoline or diesel.

The tank discharge spilled into one neighboring home’s yard, and the DeQuincy Fire Department asked the residents of the home to turn everything off in their home and leave for the night as a safety precaution, Borne said.

As of around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night, DEQ employees were still on scene of the spill investigating the details of the incident and performing clean-up.

Their investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
