Calcasieu Parish residents may be eligible for financial assistance for their electricity bill expenses through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LiHEAP).

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has received funding from the Louisiana Housing Corporation to help fund the program, which helps residents who qualify with electricity and gas utility expenses, based on their total income.
Priority is given to residents over 60 years of age, households with children under five years of age, and to residents with disabilities. LiHEAP helps an average of 6,000 people a year in Calcasieu Parish.
To qualify, residents must make equal to or less than these income guidelines:

Residents who do not apply online but who want to apply for LiHEAP can do so by calling Human Services at 337-721-4030, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday to schedule an appointment.
Walk-in clients are accepted if they have received a disconnection notice. Client intakes are done beginning at 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday on a first-come, first-served basis.
Information required to apply for LIHEAP includes verification of income, valid ID, social security cards for all residents in your home and your most recent utility bill. Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received.
