Chamber of Commerce preparing for Christmas season

DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce is preparing for the Christmas Season. The Chamber in Conjuction with The Farmers Market will begin activities on Friday, Dec. 1, at the DeQuincy Pocket Park on Pine St. with the Lighting of the City Christmas Tree and the street lights at 5:30 p.m. At this time there will be Gospel Music and presentations.

Then back at DeQuincy Railroad Museum Park with The Farmer’s Market at 6 p.m. there will be lots of shopping, Gospel and Christmas music at the DeQuincy Railroad Museum stage. Photos with Santa and shopping will be available inside DeQuincy Railroad Museum. Many churches will be providing musical entertainment. The Alvin Smith group will close out the evening.

Saturday, Dec. 2, will be the Annual DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce Parade with lineup on Third St. at 10 a.m. and rollout at 11 a.m. This year’s theme is “Candyland Christmas”.

After the parade, we will be back at the DeQuincy Railroad Museum Park with The Farmers Market and more entertainment on stage with music preformed by DeQuincy High School Band, The Elementary School Choir, Sondra Stark Dancers and the Joe Suchanek and Friends band playing your favorite gospel and country tunes.

At 4 p.m. that afternoon, there will be snow for the kids at the Union Pacific Ballpark as well as at 6 p.m. there will be a fireworks display, with approval from local fire authority due to drought. We hope that ol’ Grinch will not spoil this part of our program!
