Students of Year named for DeQuincy Elementary, High Schools

DeQuincy High

Jeri Vige’, a senior at DeQuincy High School, has been named the 2023-24 Student of The Year.

She is the daughter of Brandon and Jessica Vige’. She is a banner roll student with a 4.18 GPA and an ACT composite of 30.

She actively participates in multiple clubs and organizations. She currently serves as the Senior Class Vice President, Student Council Secretary, BETA Historian, FFA President and 4-H President. She is active in Youth for Christ, DeQuincy Honor Society, Literary Rally as well. She is also involved in the community serving others, as well as serving in her church, Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church.

Vige’ has also completed multiple dual enrollment and AP classes and she plans to attend Louisiana Christian University to major in biological sciences and minor in Missions and Ministries.

The High School Student of the Year Awards Program is designed to recognize outstanding high school students throughout the parish, region, and state. These students have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability and citizenship.

DeQuincy Elementary

DeQuincy Elementary School’s 2023-24 student of the year is Lillian Claire Thorn.

She is the daughter of Jim and Julie Thorn and the sister of Madisyn and John Luke. They have two dogs, Phoebe and Sarge; and a cat, Jenni-fur.

She is a 5th grade student who enjoys singing, drawing, reading, writing, and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys playing sports such as softball, track, and basketball.

Thorn is passionate about treating others how you want to be treated. Because she likes to help people, she is thinking about becoming a teacher, therapist, or pediatrician. But being only ten years old, she still has plenty of time to decide.
