William Fritz “Bill” Hess was born July 29, 1932, in Phillipson, to Frank and Lonnie Hess, and passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at the age of 91. He was a graduate of Bunkie High School Class of 1950. He graduated from SLI (ULL) in 1954, earning a BA Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Air ROTC.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of almost 68 years, Joan; one son, Mark Hess (Phyllis); two grandsons, Ryan Hess (Kallie) and Lance Hess (John Louis); He was “Big Paw Paw “to his great-granddaughter, Adalynn Kay Hess and “Big Big” to his great-grandson, Wyatt Scott Hess; brother, Hunter Hess (Delores); brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Delorus Cochran; sister-in-law, Janette Cochran; and many nieces and nephews.
Family was very important to him, and he was an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. In addition, he was blessed with many close and loving friends who have remained supportive to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lydia Labonde; brother, Ben Hess; sister, Carolyn Hess; brother, Jim Hess; and brother-in-law, James Cochran.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, at First United Methodist Church, 812 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles. Rev. Weldon Bares will officiate.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
