DeQuincy notches first win of season against Rosepine

The DeQuincy Tigers and new Head Coach Tate Woodard left the field Thursday night happy as both got their first victories of the year. DeQuincy handily beat the Rosepine Eagles 16-0.

Kohen Cormier got the Tigers on the board first with a 21 yard field goal.

Carson Rainwater pass to Clifford Joyce for 8 yards proved to be the first touchdown of the night for the Tigers. After the failed PAT the half time score was 9-0.

In the third quarter the Tigers added to their total with a 2 yard rushing touchdown by DaCorius Griffin. Kohen Cormier added the PAT to close out the scoring 16-0.

DeQuincy held Rosepine to 114 yards rushing and zero yards passing on the night.

Wyatt LaVergne was once again the leading rusher for the Tigers as he carried the ball 20 times for 89 yards. DaCorius Griffin had 26 yards on 7 carries. Carson Rainwater was 6 for 10 for 91 yards.

Receiving leaders for DeQuincy were Koby Poole with 47 yards on 1 catch as Quentin Pharris had 36 yards on 4 receptions.

Defensively DaCorius Griffin had a busy night as he was in on 12 tackles. Cameron Joyce and Hayz Hext each added 6 tackles and MJ Clark added 5 for the Tigers.

DeQuincy fought hard and deserved to win the game as they fought and brought home that first victory of 2023.

Next up for the Tigers is a district matchup with the Vinton Lions. The matchup will be another Thursday night contest as the game will be held in Vinton on Oct. 5, at the Lions home field.
