Shirley Elaine Barks was born Aug. 6, 1939, and passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at the age of 84.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and coloring. Most of all, Shirley loved spending time with her great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph Barks and wife, Anita, Randy Barks and wife, Sonya, and daughter, Kimberly Barks all of Starks. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Keith Hess, Derrick Barks, Todd Barks, Chasity Barks, Alex Barks and Axel Barks; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, J. L. Bussell and wife, Veda, Roy Bussell, Merlene Thaxton, and Linda Martinez and husband, Jimmy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William “Buck” Barks; parents, Johnny and Delphia Bussell; siblings, “Woody” Bussell, Homer “Blackbuck” Bussell, and “Bobo” Bussell.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, the funeral service began at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Calvary Apostolic Church, 4270 Hwy 12, Starks. Pastor Jeremy Shields officiated. Interment followed at Fountain Cemetery in Starks.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
