Reba Cooper

Reba Candace Willrich Cooper, 76, of DeQuincy, passed into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at her residence.

She was born to her late parents, Jake and Edna Willrich on Sept. 1, 1946 in DeQuincy. Candace was a 1964 graduate of DeQuincy High School, and went to Stephens College and McNeese State University, where she graduated with a Masters plus 30. She started teaching school in 1968 in St. Bernard Parish, and ended as the Librarian for DeQuincy Elementary School, where she retired in 2002. She had nearly 35 years of teaching. Candace was in the DeQuincy Study Club, and many other local organizations.

She is survived by her daughter, Lauren Cooper (Jared Franks); son, Ben Cooper (Mary); and three grandchildren, Bryce Cooper Hollie (Kaleb), Jake Cooper, and Layla Franks; along with her great-granddaughter, Genevieve Blayke Hollie, all of DeQuincy.

Candace was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gary W. Cooper; her parents; and her Aunt, Zelma Bobbit.

A Celebration of Candace’s life was held at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy, on Sunday, July 30, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Jim Fisher officiating. Visitation was held at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy, on Saturday, July 29, from 4 until 8 p.m. Visitation resumed on Sunday, from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church in DeQuincy and/or DeQuincy Study Club.

Services entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 203 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
