Harper Gillis, Sr.

Harper Gillis, Sr., was born Jan. 6, 1950, and passed away June 26, 2023, at the age of 73. Harper was a founding member of Calvary Apostolic Church in Starks. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He loved his family more than anything.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Gillis; children, Tammy Clark and husband, Timothy, and Harper “Peewee” Gillis and wife, Katie; grandchildren, Titus Clark and wife, Kaylee, Tamberly Clark, Jocelain Gillis, Georgianna Gillis, McKenzie Clark, and Chessa Wyatt; siblings, Jerry Gillis and Mildred LeFleur and husband, Ivan; mother-in-law, Claudia Braneff; sisters-in-law, Vera Gillis, Lucy Remedies, Rosa Barris; brother -in-law, Arthur Braneff and wife, Sharon; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Gillis and Lurline Hollie Gillis; and brothers, David Gillis and Harry Gillis.

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Calvary Apostolic Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 29, at Calvary Apostolic Church in Starks. Pastor Jeremy Shields officiated. Interment followed at Fountain Cemetery in Starks.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
