Spooner sets javelin record

Man, those Texas Friday Night Lights are special! Just ask South Beauregard’s Trinity Spooner, who competed at the Texas Relays tonight and won the javelin with a throw of 171’ 11″.

That is not a misprint. Yes, it’s ten feet past her previous best, 161’ 7″, which she threw last week at the Pete Boudreaux Invitational in Baton Rouge.

Oh, by the way, it’s also eight feet further than any high school girl has ever thrown the javelin in Louisiana History. The previous all-time best in the state was held by Benton’s Rachel Walker, who threw the javelin 164’ 4″ on her last throw at the state meet her senior year in 2002.

Did I mention that she broke the meet record of 169’ 4″, set last year by her friend, Mckenzie Fairchild?
