Gautreaux wins state championship

By Mike Suchanek

This past weekend two (the only two) DeQuincy Tiger Wrestlers, Sophomore Lawton Royer and Senior Camden Gautreaux competed at the LHSAA State Wrestling Championship in Bossier City. There were 725 wrestlers competing in this tournament’s three divisions.

Lawton Royer brought home a 6th place win in the 113 lb. weight class for Division 3.

Camden Gautreaux brought home a State Championship title in the 138 lb. weight class. In addition to the win, Gautreaux was voted as the Most Outstanding Wrestler for all of Division 3 in all weight classes.

The two wrestlers have worked so hard all year for these accomplishments.

There were 100 schools at the tournament competing in the three Divisions. As a team of only ‘2’ wrestlers, these Tigers ranked #45 out of the total 100 schools. They ranked #10 out of the 30 schools in Division 3. DeQuincy High School has a lot to be proud of with these two wrestlers.

Thank you to Sulphur High School’s Head Wrestling Coach JeanPaul Duhon for another successful season!

The team practices and train in Sulphur as DeQuincy High does not have a Wrestling coach or faculties to practice.
