Manuel Breaux, Sr.

Manuel “Ray” Breaux, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, in his home surrounded by family. He was born Dec. 16, 1938, in Crowley to Hampton and Winnie Broussard Breaux. Ray lived in the rural DeQuincy area.

Ray married the love of his life, Martha Martin on June 6, 1959, and they enjoyed a life together for 52 years. Ray attended schools in Kaplan, Berwick, Ragley High School and went on to graduate from Sulphur High School 1959. Ray then went to Trade School at Sowela where he entered the Apprenticeship Program, then went to work as a Machinist at PPG. He was raised and worked with his stepfather Leonard Hollier farming until 1960.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Pius X in Ragley, served as a 4-H Leader with Livestock, involved with the PPG Family Association, Rodeoing, Horse Shows, Lamb and Swine Projects, and Horse and Cattle Ranching. In the 1970s as a Machinist Crafting Jewelry, Buckles and Spurs, built the Sun Dial at the main office of PPG. He worked for Welders Supply in Morgan City, Oilfield, Construction, Kaiser Aluminum in Chalmette. After 33 years of dedication Ray retired from PPG Industries in 1998.

Ray was a collector of many things and valued by those who needed the rare finds.

Those left to cherish Ray’s memory are his children, Martha (Kenneth) Bourque, Pamela (Terry) Richard, Manuel “Manny” Breaux, Jr; grandchildren, Martin Bourque, Ann Bourque (Jesse) Nunez, Mandie Bourque (Dusty) Zaunbrecher, Shane (Whitney) Reed, Ross (Meghan) Richard, Tyler Breaux, (Fiance’ Carly Moore), Brandon (Brittney) Breaux, and Justin (Rebecca) Walters; great-grandchildren, Margaret Bourque, Brynlee and Breck Nunez, Fin and Ian Zaunbrecher, Landon, Luke, Madison, Emma Reed Dayson and Adilynn McCord, Joseph Richard, Paisley, Wacey, Laycen and Teal Breaux, Brylee and Harrison Walters, Kennidie Johnson, Lisa Walters, Wyatt Walters, and Maverick Walters; sisters, Gloria B. Mouhot and Dorothy B. Martin; and many cousins, in-laws, Godchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife and forever dance partner, Martha Martin Breaux; grandparents, Semar and Ozite Petry Breaux, Ellis and Olivia LaBry Broussard; his parents, Hampton Breaux and Winnie B. Hollier, Leonard Hollier; grandchild Jared Walters; and great grandchild, Maverick Bourque.

Funeral services for Ray Breaux, Sr. were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 13, at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church. Burial followed at Mimosa Pines Cemetery South; Father Richard officiated. Visitation began at 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur with a recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m.
