William Derek McKay, 42, was born Mar. 22, 1980 and passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2022. He enjoyed sitting on the river, reading poetry, his dogs, and listening to music. Which included; old country, ‘90s rap, and swamp pop music. Derek loved being at peace and was recently baptized on Oct. 30, 2022.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jettie McKay; daughter, Taylor McKay; grandson, Kyson Polk; stepfather, Kenneth Lovelady; along with numerous cousins, uncles, and aunts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William McKay and Melissa Brindley; maternal grandparents, Eric and Mary Brindley; and his paternal grandparents, Arnold and Lawanna McKay.
The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, with the memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 128 Hwy 109 South, Starks. Pastor Ron Butler will be officiating. Burial will follow at Doyle Cemetery in Starks.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th Street, DeQuincy.
