By Major Jerry Bell, Chief of Detectives
On Wednesday, Dec. 14, the DeQuincy Police Dept. received information that the two blue mailboxes located outside the post office had been burglarized.
All mail that had been put in the box after 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, until 1:42 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, had been stolen.
Postal authorities told Major Jerry Bell these crimes are rampart all over the state and that citizens are being advised to go into the post office to mail your mail. This case is being worked with the Postal Investigators in Louisiana and it appears that the thieves are from Texas. DeQuincy Detectives have traced the vehicle to Houston, Texas and given all the information to the Postal Authorities.
If you mailed a check at this date, it would be advised to contact your local bank and let them know. This type of crime is organized, and the thieves will wash your checks and then use your routing numbers.
Crimes like these are the direct result of there being no punishment when caught.
