Garland Royer

Garland “Roe” Royer, 72, was born July 26, 1950 in Sulphur and passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022 at his residence in DeQuincy.

Garland worked as a pipeline welder by trade out of Local 106. He was an active member of the Ward 6 Fire Protection District 1 Board of Commissions. He was appointed as a Board Member by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury in February 2013. He enjoyed wood working, gardening and keeping his yard in tip top shape. He also enjoyed watching football, western movies, cooking and being with his family. Garland loved his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Susan Hoosier Royer; children, Tiffany Fountain and husband, Gary of Strattanville, Pa., Tommy Royer and wife, Shanon of Bancroft, Kimberly White and husband, Wesley of Vinton; children-in-love, Kevin Perkins and wife, Deanna of DeQuincy, Carrie Wilson and husband, Gene of DeRidder, Alisha Fulmer and husband, Clyde of Kinder., and Chelsea LeDay and husband, Oscar of DeQuincy; sister-in law, Sherry Perkins and husband, Keithon of DeQuincy; brother-in-law, Rev. Eddie Ray Hoosier and wife, Karen of DeQuincy; He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Heide, Lacy, K. J., Haylee, Justin, Kyle, Kole and Kade; along with 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis Ray and Gertie Royer; and siblings, Carol Marcantel and Daryl Royer.

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, and 12-1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, with the funeral service to beginning at 1 p.m. Rev. Eddie Ray Hoosier officiated. The visitation and funeral was held at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Interment followed at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th Street, DeQuincy.
