LaVergne named Teacher of Year

By Dustin Royer

DeQuincy High School has named Lynn LaVergne as the 2022 Teacher of the Year.

LaVergne has taught at DeQuincy High for the past eight years, having previously taught at Vinton High for seven years. She teaches Agricultural Science I, Customer Service, Family and Consumer Science, Food Science, Nutrition and Food, and the ServSafe Food Handler program.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from McNeese State University and earned her teaching certificate from Louisiana College.

When asked about her teaching career, LaVergne states, “I have learned throughout the years to be open to change, to learn new things constantly, to love unconditionally, to humble myself, to empathize with my students, and to provide them with an experience that they may not get at home. I want my students, my ‘kids,’ to feel loved in class and know that we can overcome any obstacle that is put in our path, and that those obstacles we face are what form and shape us into who we are.”

LaVergne is a member of Our Lady of LaSalette Church in Sulphur. She and her husband, Josh, make their home in Sulphur with their two children.
