Harris named principal of Singer High

Roy Harris has been named Principal at Singer High School for the 2022-23 school year.

Harris is a first time principal with over 20 years of experience in education. He has taught elementary special education classes his whole career spanning four states. He has served as a program facilitator for Calcasieu Parish the last five years, working with elementary special services in various schools. He taught in Beauregard Parish for five years, Jeff Davis for three years, Springdale, Arkansas for three years, Florida for one year, and Texas for five years. He earned a Master’s of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University in 2000 while serving in the United States Air Force, Early Childhood certification from SELU, and his Bachelor’s degree from McNeese in 1986. He earned his Ed Leadership certification in 2016.

He served in the United States Air Force for 10 years as a computer system administrator, finishing his career as a Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in Texas, Oklahoma, and Germany. He is married to his wife, Bridget, whom he met while they were both working at Walgreens as Assistant Managers. They have two grown children, one living in New York, and one living in Longville, who is married and has given them three wonderful grandchildren.

Harris is originally from Lake Charles and currently resides in DeQuincy. He enjoys flying R/C aircraft, building models, fishing, reading, and spending time with his wife in visiting flea markets and antique stores. He loves spending time with his grandchildren and has even learned how to play Pokemon and Magic!
