Richard Royer

Richard “Ricky” Royer, 52, a resident of DeQuincy, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022. He was born on Aug. 26, 1970. Ricky was a graduate of the DeQuincy High School Class of 1989. One of his greatest memories was playing little league baseball in DeQuincy and he and his teammates became lifelong friends. He enjoyed watching his two favorite football teams, the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra “Sandy” Istre Royer; children, Tyler Royer, Jacey Royer, Zoey Royer, April Istre, Kayla Gearen and husband, Jonathon; grandchildren, Jude Royer, Lane Tolbert and wife, Marisa, Bayleigh Tolbert, T. J. Vander, Tyler Blood, Gage Brown, Adalynn Brown, Matthew Gearen, Rhyder Gearen; great-grandchildren, Drayson Tolbert, Kylee Tolbert and Layna Tolbert. He is also survived by his mother, Alana LeCourt Royer of DeQuincy; brother, Rex Royer and wife, Dina of Lake Charles; and sister, Richelle R. Spears of DeQuincy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Robert Royer; grandparents, Jackson Brown and Jewel Royer and Alvin and Agnes LeCourt; and one step-son, John “Johnny” Fruge.

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Visitation continued from 12-2 p.m., Friday Sept. 16, with the funeral service starting at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy. Rev. Jim Fisher officiated. Interment followed at Alston Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th St., DeQuincy.
