Janice Williams

Janice Margaret Esther Johnson Williams, 73.

She was born in New Orleans. The family relocated to DeQuincy when she was 4 years old. At the time of her death, she was a member of New Beginnings Church of God in Christ in Westlake.

She was a 1966 graduate of Grand Avenue High School. She also attended Southern University.

She served previously as Sunday School teacher, deaconess, worship leader, church secretary and numerous other positions under the leadership of the late Bishop Oby Pete Sr, at First Church of God in Christ in DeQuincy. On the district level she served as a teacher and a secretary of the women’s department for 25 plus years. On the jurisdictional level she served as a teacher in the children’s ministry at USAC for many years.

She is survived by her son, David Bernard Williams and Stacey Williams; sisters, Elaine Jackson, Gail Johnson, and Joyce Williams; brothers, Ned Johnson, Jr., Charles Johnson, and Alvin Johnson; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ned and Marjorie Johnson, Sr.; one brother; and one sister.

Funeral service was held Friday, July 8, at First Church of God in Christ in DeQuincy. Pastor Clifton David and Pastor Derrick Gallien officiated. Burial was in Community Cemetery in DeQuincy under the direction of James Funeral Home.
