Dalton VanSlyke

Dalton Ervin VanSlyke was born in Port Arthur, Texas on Nov. 19, 1941 and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Dorothy VanSlyke; brother, Gerald VanSlyke; and sister, Doris Sparks.

Ervin was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather who lived a blessed and full life centered around his family and his Savior. He was best known for being an encourager who always took time to share a funny story, hearty smile, silly saying (“Erv-ism”), and for the children at church, a piece or two of candy … Ervin was a precious Christian – a true reflection of love and kindness. He was a great man and like a father to many – a sweet, dear friend to others and a true joy to be around. He loved his family unashamedly and his presence will be missed until the day we are reunited. 1 Cor. 15:19; 2 Tim. 4:7; 2 Cor. 5:1

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlene VanSlyke; daughter, Cheree Heck and husband Jeremy; daughter, Tiffany Smith and husband Justin; granddaughter, Simone Heck; grandson, Simeon Heck; numerous nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

The family wishes to express their most sincere appreciation for the outpouring of love and support shown by everyone. We have shared fond memories with so many of you – thank you for all your expressions of kindness and for covering our family with your prayers.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. with the funeral following at 7 p.m., on Friday, June 17, at Royalwood Pentecostal Church. Graveside was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 18, at Rosewood Memorial Park.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
