Shirley Adaway

Shirley Geneva Adaway, a resident of DeQuincy was born July 16, 1936 in Big Sandy, Texas and passed away Tuesday, Mar. 1, 2022 at the age of 85.

Geneva was a faithful member of The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy. She had a heart of gold, always willing to help others. She was a great cook and a meticulous housekeeper.

She will always be remembered for the many cakes she would bake for her friends and the cards she would send to her friends on special occasions. Geneva never met a stranger; she loved to talk, spend time visiting and going out to eat with her friends.

She enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson, sight seeing and attending the shows. She loved to watch ice skating and playing games on her iPad. She will be greatly missed by all her family and many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley R. Corbello and husband, Anthony and son, Gene Adaway; three grandchildren, Ryan Corbello, Jennifer Corbello and Randy Corbello; and four great-grandchildren; and her nephew and niece, Perry and Charlette Ray.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Eugene A. Adaway; parents, Lorenzo Caldwell and Della Mamie Cobb Caldwell; siblings, Jessie Ray, Virginia Merrill and Gene Caldwell.

The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 3, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Mar. 4, at the Oak Bluff Memorial Park, located at 618 Block Street, Port Neches, Texas. Officiating was Rev. Dale Welch.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
