Former All State MVP Colin Cooper had his number retired at a ceremony held this past Saturday, Feb. 5, at DeQuincy High School baseball field.

Coach Brady Carlson opened the ceremony by giving some information on the 1981 state runner up team led by star pitcher Colin Cooper who was named the Class 2A MVP that year. Cooper went on to play at Lamar University.

Cooper’s number 7 Jersey was retired by Coach Harold Fugua and principal Ron Johnson that year but somehow there was a mix up and the number was used again. There is now a Jersey hanging on the fence.

Coach Fuqua spoke at the ceremony on his time coaching Cooper who was not only a pitcher but he also hit over 300 as a hitter.

Many of Cooper’s family and past teammates were present for the ceremony.
