Gay Langston

Gay Langston, 71, of Dripping Springs, Texas passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021.

Gwenda Gay Clifton Langston was born in 1950 in Orange, Texas to Albert and Gwendolyn Clifton. The family relocated to the Clifton family hometown of DeQuincy where Gay grew up. Known as Gay to all her family and friends, she was active in First Baptist Church. She excelled in school, becoming valedictorian of her 1968 high school class.

Attending LSU in Baton Rouge, she met her future husband, Lawrence Langston. They married in 1973 and began a 49 year devoted partnership in marriage. Theirs was a marriage and love that grew stronger over the years. They remained best friends throughout the marriage. They lived 30 years in Houston, Texas and retired to Dripping Springs, Texas in 2008.

Gay and Lawrence have two wonderful daughters – Lauren Alexander and Lisa Torres. Sons-in-law are Michael Alexander and Alfonso Torres. Grandchildren are Aidan Torres, Nicole Alexander, Garrett Alexander and Chloe Torres.

Gay’s four grandchildren were the loves of her life. She enjoyed cooking and baking with them, sewing clothes and costumes for them and having them run around the Dripping Springs acreage. Gay was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Gay and Lawrence enjoyed RVing. They traveled by RVs for 31 years. Long RV trips went to most of the US east of the Rockies. Shorter trips went all over Texas. They belonged to the FMCA Travlin’ Texans club, attending 4-5 week-long rallies a year. Gay served as a club officer and committee member and hosted many rallies.

Gay and Lawrence took many cruises, bus tours and train trips throughout the world. She especially loved trips to Iceland, Alaska, the Panama Canal and Israel. Her once-in-a-lifetime trip was a cruise to Antarctica with landings on the continent.

An accomplished cook, Gay loved hosting large family gatherings. Having a house full of relatives sitting around, talking and laughing was a successful gathering. Feeding them was a task she and her sisters accomplished with skill.

The oldest of five children, Gay is survived by her sisters Alice Middlebrooks, Denise Delphen and Anne Ellis and her brother Warren Clifton. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gay attended several different churches over the years. She served on several bereavement committees, new member committees, in women’s circles and in Sunday School classes. She was a woman of deep faith and committed to service.

A memorial service for Gay will be held at Lake Travis United Methodist Church in Austin on Saturday, Jan. 8, at p.m.
