Gilland to turn 18 at Junior World Finals

Kolyn Gilland, will celebrate his 18th birthday on Wednesday, Dec. 1, as he arrives in LasVegas to compete in the Junior World Finals Bull Riding Championships, where he sits in 1st place in his age group coming out of the Rocky Mountain Region Junior World Finals championships.

Gilland, a DeQuincy native, spent the first 15 years of his life right here in DeQuincy, then moved to Lander, Wyo. with his Paw, Tim Gilland, in the summer of 2018.

He rode his first bull on Feb. 4, 2018 at Penny & Sons Rodeo Arena on Pilgrims Rest Rd. and since then, he has ridden approximately 500 bulls in rodeos spanning several states. This will be his third time to qualify for the Junior World Finals.

He is accompanied on the Finals trips by his mother, Teri Parker.
