DHS Student of Year named

Gabrielle Joy Barnes, a senior at DeQuincy High School, has been named the 2021-22 Student of the Year.

Barnes is the daughter of William and Carie Barnes. She is a banner roll student with a 4.28 GPA and an ACT composite of 34.

She participates in multiple clubs and organizations. Some of those include the following: Beta, Student Council, DHS Choir, ACDA All-State Choir, 4-H, FCA, Cross Country, Track, and Football Tech/Trainer. She is also involved in the community serving others, as well as serving in her church, St. Pius X in Ragley.

Barnes has also completed multiple dual enrollment and AP classes, and is currently enrolled in McNeese’s College Prep program, where she is on track to receive an Associate Degree at McNeese by the end of her spring semester. Barnes plans to pursue a career as a pediatric anesthesiologist.

The High School Student of the Year Awards Program is designed to recognize outstanding high school students throughout the parish, region, and state. These students have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability and citizenship.
