Mary Lena Clifton, 92, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021 at Carol Woods Retirement Community. Lena was born Aug. 21, 1929 in Kinder to her late parents, Eli and Alma LaFleur. She taught for many years for Calcasieu Parish Schools. Lena was a longtime member of Our Lady of LaSalette in DeQuincy Altar Society.
She is survived by her son, Bill Clifton (Brenda) of DeQuincy; daughter, Lenise Clifton (Chuck) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; half brother, E.J. LaFleur; five grandchildren, Heather Royer, Lance Clifton, Anna Claire Mauney, Mary Kate Mauney, and Ben Mauney; along with five great-grandchildren.
Lena was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Frank Robert Clifton; her brother, Roy LaFleur; and two sisters, Eva Sonnier and Ivy Begnaud.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church in DeQuincy on Monday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. with Father Luis Tigga officiating. Visitation was at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Sunday, Oct. 3, from 5 until 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation resumed at the funeral home on Monday, from 8 a.m. until the procession to the church. Burial followed at Perkins Cemetery.
Services entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
