Darryl Chehotsky

On Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, Darryl B. Chehotsky, loving father and friend passed away at age 62 with a bout from cancer.

Darryl was born on Jan. 7, 1959 in Lake Charles to Bettye and Ted Chehotsky. He retired from Sears in 2018 after working 43 years as a service technician. On the job, he made friends that would become family and mastered skills that he would share with others over the years and he taught his daughters a thing or two as well. After he retired, his skills sure did not. He continued his repair work on many different projects for anyone who reached out for help. One of his nephews, John, shared a quote: “If Darryl can’t fix it, it’s not worth fixing.” That is a statement that everyone would agree with.

Darryl had many names: Dad, Uncle, Brother, Pockets, Potsy, Diamond, D, Butter, and Friend. He was truly one of a kind. He was kind, gentle, thoughtful, understanding, and full of love. He enjoyed going to see his friends and catching up to have coffee as often as they could get together. He also enjoyed getting to spend time at his deer camps where he would often bake his world-renowned pear cobbler. He loved going hunting and being able to spend time in the woods with friends who also became like family. In his free time, he was always finding new projects to start on, doing yard work, cooking, collecting things, helping others, or taking a well-deserved nap in his recliner. He enjoyed spending time with his two girls, Kaitlyn and Heather. He was the best father anyone could have asked for and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t have done for them.

He is survived by his two children, Kaitlyn Chehotsky and Heather Chehotsky; his ex-wife, Lori Chehotsky; his dog Rio; and his granddog, Baylor; as well as his two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Chehotsky and Nancy Chehotsky; several cousins and nephews, and countless friends who he considered to be his family.

He will go on to join his family members who have been waiting to greet him in heaven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bettye Chehotsky and Theodore “Ted” Chehotsky; as well as his three brothers, Mike Chehotsky, Stan Chehotsky, and Marty Chehotsky.

He was happy with the life that he lived and left this world knowing that we would all see him again. He loved God and was a faithful member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. He left us all with fond memories of love and laughter that will be cherished for decades to come.

His famous saying was, “It is what it is.”

A Celebration of Darryl’s life was held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m., with Bro. Jordan Doyle officiating. Visitation was at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home Sunday, beginning at 4 p.m. until the time of the service.

Services were entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.

Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonsnider.com.
