Sherrie Ann West Welch was born Feb. 3, 1940 and passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020 at her residence in DeQuincy.
Sherrie graduated DeQuincy High School in 1957. She worked as a correctional officer and retired from Phelps Correctional Center in 2005. Sherrie loved people; she loved to talk and she never met a stranger. She enjoyed spending time on her front porch in her rocking chair watching the squirrels play in her yard. She loved her children and grandchildren and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Rhonda West Smith and husband, Greg of Lake Charles, Lisa West Droddy of DeQuincy, Derek West and wife, Melissa of Mauriceville, Texas, Joyce West of DeQuincy, and Glynis Marcantel of San Francisco, Calif.; her grandchildren, Casey Smith, Sean Smith, Logan Smith, Chad Perkins, Krista West, Tiffany West, Rebecca Cooper and husband, Michael, Jared West, Christopher O’Bannon, Gage Marcantel, Madison Streeter, Carly Longron, Amber Ramsey and Lane Ramsey; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lou Joyce Wylie; and brother, Morris “Sluggo” Welch; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie William Welch and Henrietta Mae Lambert Welch; and brother, John Terrell Welch.
The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, and the funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Hom in DeQuincy. Interment followed at Riley Smith Memorial Park in DeQuincy.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
