Harold Poole

Harold Bruce Poole, a native and resident of Starks was born Sept. 15, 1932 and passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020 at the age of 88.

Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. In 1994, he joined the VFW Post No. 4759 and served as Quarter Master for the Post. For 26 years, he worked for the community of Starks making sure every Starks High School Senior had a scholarship. Bruce was head operator for PPG/OxyChemical where he retired after working for over thirty years. He enjoyed his time at the deer lease, loved to fish and spend time working in his garden. He loved his wife, children and family and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Melita Poole; children, Ronny Poole and wife, Erma, Steven Poole and wife, Jennifer, Kayla Herring and husband, Kenny and Jeanie Trussell and husband, Ray Canady, all of Starks; along with six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Matthew Poole and Florence Grace Buxton Poole; two grandchildren; one sister; and three brothers.

The family received friends from 9-11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23 and the funeral service began at 11 a.m. The visitation and funeral were held at Calvary Apostolic Church, 4270 Highway 12, Starks. Rev. Keith Smith officiated and interment followed at Doyle Cemetery in Starks.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
