Ward 6 Fire Department report

Submitted by Chief Todd Parker, Ward 6 Fire Dept.

Electricity has been restored to Station 2 at 108 Marcantel Rd, Station 4 at 1617 Holbrook Park Rd, and Station 5 at 4320 Edgerly Rd. These stations suffered minor damages and repairs will begin shortly to mitigate damages.
Station 1 at 1275 Hwy. 27 N of DeQuincy is not operational due to roof and wall damage. Crews will be working this week to make emergency repairs in an attempt to get the station operational again.

Station 3 at 3533 N. Hwy 27 (High Hope Rd area) is a total loss and we are working with demolition crews to begin the process of removing the building. The process to rebuild this station will be long but we will work diligently to ensure fire protection for homeowners in that area of the fire district. Ward 6 Fire and Houston River Fire Department have an automatic aid agreement in place. HRFD will send fire apparatus and crews for all structural alarms to assist if we have a fire in that area.

We currently have five fleet vehicles with damage, one is out of service for repair (Engine 19). Engine 5, Service 10, Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 all have minor damages and will remain in service until they can be repaired. We will stagger repairs so that we ensure we have the apparatus needed to respond to emergencies.

Currently, Ward 6 has assistance from Jefferson Parish Task force with four Firefighters and one officer and St. Tammany Parish Task force with four firefighters and one officer. The task forces are providing manpower for Engines 5 and 7 at Station 2. The ability to have these task forces embedded at our stations shortens the response times to emergencies, especially to the areas that currently have damaged stations that are not operational.

We are prepared to respond to emergencies as Tropical Storm Beta approaches. TS Beta is expected to be downgraded to a tropical depression; however, heavy rainfall make cause flooding due to the trees and debris blocking drainage. If you have an emergency and need assistance please call 911.
