State Representative Stephen Dwight (R-Moss Bluff) has announced his candidacy for Calcasieu Parish District Attorney. Current DA John DeRosier will not be seeking reelection.
Dwight is a graduate of Sam Houston High School, LSU, and Southern University Law Center and has been practicing law since 2003 when he joined the Dwight Law Firm. He is a former City Attorney, Prosecutor and Magistrate for the City of Westlake. Currently, he is General Counsel for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, the State Representative for District 35 (2016-), and a partner and owner in the Dwight & Gary Law Firm (2018-).
In the legislature, Rep. Dwight serves on the House Executive Committee; House and Governmental Affairs (Chairman); Administration of Criminal Justice; Municipal, Parochial & Cultural Affairs; Ways and Means; Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay; Attorney Fee Review Board; and Member of Rural Caucus, Acadiana and Republican Delegation. He is licensed to practice law before the USDC Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts; the United States Courts of Appeal – 5th Circuit; and the United States Supreme Court.
The Chamber SW gave him the 2016 Fusion Five Up and Coming Legislator Award; named him a 2016, 2017, and 2019 LegisGator Business Champion; and gave him the 2018 LegisGator Governmental Affairs Award. Lagniappe named him Best Legislator of the Year for each of his four years, 2016-2019.
The National Federation of Independent Businesses gave him their Guardian of Small Business Award. The Coastal Conservation Association named him the 2019 Legislative Champion. The Louisiana Family Forum gave him the Family Advocate Award in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
He is the former President of the Young Men’s Business Club; the former Vice President of the Calcasieu Women’s Shelter; former President of the National Wild Turkey Federation; former Chairman of the American Heart Association Heart Walk; former President of Crime Stoppers of Lake Charles. Currently, he is a member of Partners in Education, NRA, Coastal Conservation Association; Ducks Unlimited; Whitetails Unlimited; Moss Bluff Civic Club; Louisiana State Bar Association; SWLA Bar Association; Chamber Southwest Louisiana; McNeese Quarterback Club; LSU Alumni Association; and Tiger Athletic Foundation.
He is married to Jessica Brown Dwight and they have three children: Riley, Peyton, and Hudson. They are members of Moss Bluff Methodist Church
