Christopher Mitchell

Christopher Lloyd Mitchell, aka “Big Country,” 23, of Sour Lake, Texas, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019 in Beaumont, Texas.

He was born to his parents, Rodney Mitchell, Jr. and Shelly Rankin on Feb. 19, 1996 in Lake Charles. He worked as a pipefitter for Steam and Process Repairs. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a professional at the pool table. He also liked hanging out with his friends around the bon fire. Christopher loved shooting his gun and fishing. He loved cutting jokes and living life to the fullest. He was known by several nicknames such as, “Big Dawg” and “Goliath.” Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and nieces, Winnie Fayth and Brooklyn Grace, and was known by his family and friends as the protector of all.

He is survived by his brothers, David Mitchell of Port Neches, Texas, Blake Doyle of Moss Bluff, and Josh Hodges and wife Krislyn of Vidor, Texas; two sisters, Ashley Mitchell and Jewel Mitchell, both of DeQuincy; grandparents, Rodney Sr. and Cheryl Mitchell of DeQuincy; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Christopher was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sharon Jacobs Odom; great-grandparents, John and Hazel Showman, Goldie and Allen Pickering, and Paul Jacobs; and his great uncles, Rodney Jacobs, Lloyd and Floyd Mitchell.

A Celebration of Christopher’s life will be held at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m., with Bro. Anthony Kennon and Bro. Ricky Kennon officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 6, at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy from 5 until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday at the church from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Go Fund Me account, set up through Facebook in his name, christoper-lloyd-mitchell.

Burial will follow at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields.

Services are entrusted to Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
