Temple Baptist Church was established in May, 1926 and is still flourishing under the Headship of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are excited about what the Lord has done and is doing here at Temple Baptist Church. Our church is growing every week. Whether it is in growth by number or growth in spirit, we are growing and increasing for the Lord and his work. We believe the church should be a lighthouse to the lost and a place to grow for the saved (born again). At Temple Baptist Church, we believe in getting the gospel message of Christ out to the community and around the world.
God has blessed us with gifted teachers, music directors, musicians, and deacons who serve the Lord and the church with their gifts and callings. The Lord has given us a wonderful group of children and youth who faithfully attend the services and take part in singing and activities that are provided. We offer Sunday School classes for all ages. We have a growing singles and young couples class as well as classes for men and women, both older and younger.
The Lord has blessed us in our worldwide missions program through faith-promise missions. We currently support 41 missionaries inside the United States and around the world.
At Temple Baptist Church, we believe in having a solid foundation in the Word of God and we take joy in the teaching and discipleship of others through the bible.
Bro. Bruce Austin has served as the pastor of Temple Baptist Church since May, 2008. Serving alongside him are his wife, Keri, and their children: Jeremy, James, and Blaeklynn. Temple Baptist Church is located at 310 LeBlanc Street in DeQuincy. Join us at Temple Baptist Church where Jesus Christ is Lord.
BAPTISTS
B – Bible Authority – We do not just believe the Bible contains the word of God, we believe the Bible IS the word of God prescribed for us in the King James Version.
A – Autonomy – We believe the local New Testament church is independent and self governing. We have the Bible as our guide and missions as our goal to the glory of Jesus Christ.
P – Priesthood of Believers – We are a priesthood together in unity of service to the Lord. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” I Peter 2:9
T – Two Ordinances – Baptism: After a person has placed their faith in Christ, then they are baptized by immersion as a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Not to be saved, but to show what Jesus did for us in salvation. Lord’s Supper: As baptism pictures the gospel, so does the Lord’s Supper. The bread represents His body and wine represents His blood. This we partake of in remembrance of what Jesus did for us.
I – Individual Soul Liberty – Every believer has to make their own decisions in serving Christ. Each believer has free will and liberty to serve Him, love Him, and do what He has called each to do.
S – Saved First – A believer is saved first, followed by baptism by immersion, and then becomes a member of the church.
T – Two Offices – Pastor: Undershepherd or Overseer; Deacons, Servants and helpers of the Pastor and servants to widows and others in local churches.
S – Security in Salvation – We believe there is security in salvation, but this does not give us freedom to sin. Believers are saved by His grace and through His blood, He is able to keep them saved. “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?” Romans 6:1
