First Baptist Church of DeQuincy

God is blessing the church and is increasing attendance and mission/ministry opportunities in and around our wonderful city. With two services every Sunday morning, there is definitely a place for everyone to worship our Lord and Savior.

On Sunday mornings, we gather together to celebrate God’s goodness with a Contemporary service at 9:45 a.m., and then our Traditional service with hymns is held at 11 a.m. Our Minister of Worship, Danny Morgan, has led the church to establish new approaches to its music in worship and is very well received. Pastor Gil Arthur presents God’s Word in both services. Bro. Gil and the church have made a commitment to seek the Truth in all things. To separate man’s ideas and suppositions from the clearly presented Word of God. God’s Word is complete and nothing should be added nor taken away from it. God is real, His Word is True, and He is working in His churches where faith in Him is expressed. Sunday nights we gather for one Blended Service to Worship and celebrate God’s presence.

Though First Baptist DeQuincy has existed and ministered to the community since 1904, the church now has a new and very young look to it. In our Contemporary and Sunday night services, our youth and young adults lead out in worship. With instrumentalists joining together with guitars, drums, keyboards, and the piano, the church worships together with beautiful worship music.

The Youth Program of the church has increased greatly in the past few years. Joel Whalley is our Youth Minister and he has made a great impact in the lives of the youth and the church. Disciple Now, Hot Hearts, Summer Camp in Oklahoma, and local mission projects mark just a sample of youth events that are taking place with our active youth group. Every Wednesday Night at 6 p.m. there is a Youth Led Worship Service in our newly renovated youth room upstairs in the education wing, followed by an awesome Bible study. All young people of DeQuincy are certainly invited to this services and will be greatly blessed if they should attend. Yes, it’s happening with the youth at First!

The Children’s Ministry has grown exponentially over the recent years under the leadership of Karli Smith. The new children’s wing is at capacity and more room is being made to accommodate the growing number of precious children. Wednesday nights provide Awana for our children during the school year, and it’s very successful. There are also lock-ins, parties, special events, as well as VBS and Children’s Camp during the summer. Our children are provided the very best of Christian opportunities and education.

First Baptist has renewed and or made commitments in the following areas:

To be friendly and accepting of all people who come to worship the Savior with us. All will be welcomed and made to feel at home at First. God loves all people and so do we.

To cherish the heritage and traditions of FBC that have proven effective in the Gospel for many years. The Senior Adults of First are loved and honored for their many years of faithful service.

To seek excellence in all we seek to achieve. God’s work deserves the best efforts of His people. We are not perfect, but we worship a perfect Savior and we seek to honor Him with our best in music, Bible teaching, preaching, and ministry.

To focus on the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It really is all about Him and not us. We seek to lift Him up and focus on His love and sacrifice for us which helps us toward selfless service. When the church is focused on Him, we see as He sees, and serves as His body in this community.

To stand on the truth of God’s Word. We are a Southern Baptist Church, cooperating together with countless churches in support of missions around the world. We join together to provide God’s Word to all peoples, of all nations and languages. To do that worldwide, we must be faithful to accept God’s Word as it is written. God’s Word is perfect and is profitable for correction, instruction, and training in righteousness.

The SALVATION OF GOD must be clearly proclaimed to all. There is only One way to eternal life and heaven. The plan of SALVATION IS:

  • Acts 4:12
  • John 3:16
  • Romans 9:9-10

If man could be saved by our own works and efforts, then Jesus would not have had to die on the Cross. He prayed in the Garden, “Father, if there be any way, let this cup pass from Me…” He drank from the cup, because there is no other way for man to be saved but by the death of Jesus Christ. His death is sufficient to pay for our sins! His resurrection from the dead is sufficient to defeat both sin and death! Jesus only is the message of salvation to the whole world.

To WORSHIP the God of Glory and Grace with joy and commitment. We seek to provide the opportunity for all people to focus on Him and to worship Him in music and through preaching.

  • Psalm 95:6
  • John 4:24
  • Psalm 122:1

To FELLOWSHIP together as Family. Paul commands us to respect our elders as fathers and mothers, to respect the younger men as brothers and women as sisters. We are family because we have been Born Again into a saving relationship with the Heavenly Father. So we gather for fellowship and food on a regular basis. We encourage one another through the challenges of life, we minister to one another during sickness and bereavement. If there is one group of people in the world that should love one another, it is the local Body of Christ! FBC is enjoying warm and loving fellowship.

  • Luke 24:15
  • Hebrews 10:24
  • Acts 2:42

Today is a new day at First Baptist Church of DeQuincy! Come be with us in unity, faith, and service. Come join with us to honor and glorify our wonderful God and Savior Jesus Christ. Come, experience a new day with new beginnings as God prepares us for the soon coming of Jesus.
