John Johnson

John Derrick Johnson, 47, was born July 25, 1974 and passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2021 at his residence in DeQuincy.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy. John was a craftsman specialty welder and he loved a good challenge. He worked hard to provide for his wife and children, spending much of his time working away from home but he would drive hours just to be with his family. John also loved hunting and spending time outdoors. He was a loving husband, father and son and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-three years, Brandi Kay Viator Johnson; children, Carson, Kyndal and Kenna; mother, Adele Manuel and husband, Elroy of Moss Bluff; father, Freeman Turner; sisters, Missy LaBauve and husband, Kevin, and Denise Byler; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenny and Lillian Viator; and sister-in-law, Stefani Viator Royer and husband, Jonathan.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Gordon Johnson.

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy and the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021 at Riley Smith & Sons Chapel.

John had a love for outdoors so at the request of his family and to honor him, the family would love for everyone to wear camouflage attire to his service.

The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice for their outstanding care of John. John was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and Heart of Hospice provided excellent, compassionate care for him.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
