Mary Lou Harris Sims O’Rear, 92, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, at a local care center.
She was a native and lifelong resident of DeQuincy. Mary was a member of Hargrove Bible Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing and especially enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with friends.
Survivors include her children, Brady Jay Sims of Kerrville, Texas, Tammy Colleen Midkiff of Longville, and Penny Rene’ Dunning of DeQuincy; her sister, Fannie Istre of DeQuincy; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Lee Harris and Ludie Perkins Harris; and siblings, Inez Pinder and Walter Ray Harris; and three grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Scott Streams and Vance Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday in the funeral home.
