Jeanette Poole Cooley was born June 19, 1948, and passed away Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at the age of 78.
Jeanette, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, devoted mother, aunt, friend, nurse, and caregiver, passed away leaving behind a life filled with dedication, kindness, and love for her hometown and the people around her.
Jeanette graduated from DeQuincy High School in 1966. She continued her education at Sowela, where she studied business, and went on to work for Mr. Carl Perkins and John Hagar as an accountant at Perkins Pharmacy for 30 years. Later in life, Jeanette returned to college at McNeese State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1989.
She worked as a staff nurse at Memorial Hospital and was proud to be a part of the GWEN program. Eventually, Jeanette returned to her hometown of DeQuincy, where she served as Director of Nurses. Her career in nursing allowed her to care for and touch the lives of many people in her community.
Outside of her work, Jeanette enjoyed the simple things that brought her happiness. She loved reading books, tending to her annual potted plants, and spending time watching hummingbirds. These quiet joys reflected her appreciation for nature, learning, and the beauty found in everyday life.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Cooley; daughter, Laura Baggett and husband David; siblings, Wilborn Poole and wife Carol, Don Poole and wife Diane, and Juanice Brown and husband Dan; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Poole Sr.; mother-in-law, Janelle Cooley; father-in-law, John Marvin; siblings, Ron, Ray, Milborn, Freddy, Tim, Shirley Jr., Betty, and Billy.
The family held a private funeral service at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Rev. James Hamilton officiated. Interment followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
